In this Demonstration, the constant angular speed of a crank is converted into the variable linear speed of a sliding block, forced to stay on a straight line. A slider-crank mechanism can be used to convert rotary motion into linear motion or vice-versa.  Figure below shows offset slider crank mechanism.
